die Lippe
2020-2021
The Lippe is a tributary of the Rhein river that snakes 220 km along the northern edge of the Ruhr region. The industrialization of the area since the mid-1800s, especially hard coal mining operations caused extensive water quality problems in the Lippe tributaries and the Lippe itself. In 1913 the Sesekegenossenschaft and the Lippeverband in 1926 were established to regulate pollution. This project describes the area between the Wesel-Datteln-Kanal and the Lippe. The photographs will become a part of the historical photographic archives of the Emschergennossenschaft/Lippeverband in Essen.
This project was in part funded by the NRW-Künstlerstipendien.
